Again more practice with perspective, character and background integration, and drawing backgrounds period.

I've kind of changed my workflow (again) this past week after getting really frustrated. So about a week ago I'd start out every figure by drawing a naked guy first, and then I'd put clothes on him, but I found that that method messes with the core of the style I already have established and just feels so rigid.

Now I just draw the basic pose and don't worry much about setting up muscles or any of that stuff unless those parts show. So that way I save time and I'm able to actually enjoy what I draw more.
I know some people that make sudden leaps in their skill and then cease to look to improve anymore. Sometimes the progress high feels too good and you stop trying to work on other weaknesses (guilty).  And sometimes all of your progress makes its peak in one awesome piece and you sit and bask in the glory of it... and accidentally fall into an art block  (again guilty).

As of late I've kind of been purposefully undermining any significant progress I make to prevent any of the above from happening again, and it's worked pretty good so far since I"m always looking forward to the next step instead of that one big jump.

So I'm curious how others handle artistic progress. Do you just go 'cool'/'meh' and look forward to the next big thing, or do you revel in what you've done for an extended period and lose sight of the bigger picture? etc.

(Disregard if topic has been done before, lol)

practicing backgrounds, perspectives, and camera angles. But mostly how to integrate characters within backgrounds (which I've had a LOT of problems with for... forever). This was my latest attempt at remedying that issue.

The out of perspective floating guy at the upper-right was just a last minute toss in to use up some of that white space I didnt like.

Drawing_The_Body, My_Style: Male___/1/2Tutorial
So I've been meaning to do another tutorial ever since my last one having to do with faces and whatnot, which you can see here
<da:thumb id="415302303">

Thing is I didn't know what I wanted to say with this one, and I ended up with something that could resemble a tutorial, but it's more like those step-by-step tutorials that tell you nothing at all. Anyways. I've had the file sitting on my desktop since August and decided to just push out whatever I had done and see if it was any use to anyone at all. I should definitely start planning these things out before I jump in headfirst... tutorials are HARD.
Been a while since I last wrote a journal. Been a looooongg while, I mean as it should be since nobody reads these. But hey! I figured since there may be a couple weirdos like me out there, you may find cool little developments in my life interesting once in a while... Oh also because I need to put better contact information here for those that don't have a DA account. With that being said

This is my Facebook page

It should also have my email on it as well. Like my art? Shoot me a friend request there or a like/follow?... however that works. I find myself posting a lot of my WIP stuff there and use my DA account for finished work that I 'deem worthy' aka pofessional enough, but worthy sounds cooler.

So yea, as for artistic developments, I've been having a blast these past two months as I seem to have gotten my 2009 stride back. It's just been non-stop drawing whenever I get the time, cranking out piece after piece, practicing as much as possible, trying to teach myself new things and covering my weak points as best I can. It's just been great. I say this because a couple months ago it was the complete opposite, I didn't even want to pick up a pencil or look at my tablet because I was so down in the dump. I think I went maybe doing 1 drawing (doodle) a month, maybe a couple sketches that I'd immediately hate. Yea, those were bad times, and it'd been going like that off and on since the end of 2012.

BUT I'm in a better spot now. I'm busy writing the script for a new comic me and a friend will be working on together, I also had an art gallery opening at my college today which was pretty much overwhelmingly positive, I even sold a piece, which was weird, I'm not used to parting with my art, no matter how much I hate it, lol.

SO I think that's enough pointless banter for this journal. I plan to do one of these each week, but uh... I'll see how that works out.

Thank you! I don't know how I do it. But everything I do just seems to come out creepy no matter what, but hey, I'm not complaining.
